The only time an email will be blocked is if you've installed the optional anti-virus plugin, and the email contains a virus. In this case, virus-infected emails will always be stopped (but I doubt this is the case here).

Are you 100% sure that the "557" unable to relay error is generated by SpamFilter and not by your destination SMTP server...?

It is to note that, again, as we mentioned earlier, SpamFilter will forward all emails to your destination SMTP server for delivery. If the source of the emails is the server "mail.domainname.dk", and this server is the same one in SpamFilter's "Destination Server", you will need to be careful in avoiding mail loops, as every email SpamFilter receives will be forwarded back to mail.domainname.dk for the actual delivery.

To use SpamFilter as an "outgoing SMTP server", and relay emails out to the internet, there are a couple of options available.

1. You can add the IP addresses/networks of the users who wish to use SpamFilter as their "Outgoing SMTP Server" to the IP address whitelist in SpamFilter. Only IPs that have been whitelisted will be able to send emails out to the internet.

or...

2. SpamFilter supports SMTP Authentication. Users can be authenticated using either Active Directory, LDAP, or Unix-style password files. SSL support is also available. Any user that authenticates successfully is able to use SpamFilter to relay emails to the internet (and thus use it as their Outgoing SMTP server).

Please note that in all cases, SpamFilter will always forward emails to your destination SMTP server for delivery, even though these emails will be sent to external domains. For security reasons, to avoid becoming an open relay, SpamFilter will never emails directly to the internet.

Spam Filter ISP Support : disable greylisting for whitelisted IP's

    Author: LogSat
Subject: disable greylisting for whitelisted IP's
Posted: 17 August 2008 at 10:48pm

WHile a very good idea, this request can't be implemented for technical reasons. The greylist is implemented at the TCP level right after a connection is made, before any MAIL FROM / RCPT TO commands are sent to SpamFilter. In SpamFilter Enterprise the IP whitelists are however dependent on the domain specified in the RCPT TO command, because in SpamFilter Enterprise all whitelists/blacklists are customizable for each domain. Due to this, since the greylist is checked before the RCPT TO command is used to determine which IP whitelist to use, the greylist filter has no idea of what the IP whitelist entries are going to be.

SpamFilter ISP "standard" uses the same code-base and same features of SpamFilter Enterprise. So even though in SpamFilter ISP there is only one whitelist, and the greylist filter would then be able to theoretically know what that is, due to the sharing of features between the two versions, we're hesitant to make the two versions behave differently. We'll monitor this thread to see what feedback we receive on this.

    Author: LogSat
Subject: Log file format
Posted: 17 August 2008 at 10:16pm

The behavior on what happens when an email is not in Authorized TO whitelist is dictated by a parameter in the SpamFilter.ini file (DisconnectOnNonAuthorizedTO). Depending on this value connections can be immediately disconnected when an email address is not in that list, or the rejection will be postponed till later. Partly due to this reason, the rejection message was made different than the other cases several years ago when this list was implemented. Since then, there have been several products and customers who have been parsing SpamFilter's logs for reports, and for this reason we are *very* hesitant in changing existing logging syntax in order to prevent problems in anyone who is relying on the current specific format in their reports.
